Well, tonight is the night that Mom and Dad tell my grandparents about me. We are all going over to Asheville, NC to eat to celebrate both Mom's birthday in December and Dad's birthday tonight.
On the way over, Mom calls her parents (Granny and Pappaw) to let them know. First Pappaw answers the phone and tells Mom that Granny is outside shoveling mud off the driveway and can we call back later. Obviously, he does not realize the importance of this call. Well, Mom decides to tell him that she will give him the news and he can decide whether or not Granny needs to come and answer the phone or not. Pappaw decides that Granny should come to the phone and tells her that there is an accounting question that Mom has for her. Granny's first words were "so what have I done now." Mom assured her that it was Dad that had done something and asked Granny "when does 1 plus 1 equal 3, or 4". Granny was confused, but got what was going on when Mom told her she was pregnant with me. My grandparents can't wait to tell everyone, but Mom swore them to secrecy. What is up with all this secrecy?
Then we get to Asheville and the restaurant. Once we all get seated, Dad tells his parents (don't know what they want to be called yet, so we will refer to them by their first names for now) that he has a gift for them and that Mom and Dad are pregnant. (Well of course Dad isn't pregnant, but they are all about this "we" thing.) Betty begins to tear up and Aunt Heather and Gary are very excited. Again, everyone is sworn to secrecy.
On the way home, Mom tries to call her brother, but he never seems to answer his phone. She will tell him tomorrow anyway.
